How Long Does Cialis Last?

Question:

I’m just out of college and have got a good job, but I like to have fun on the weekend. I’ve heard that of all the ED medications available on the market today Cialis is the longest-lasting. I’m looking for a drug that would give me the ability to be sexually active throughout the weekend. Would Cialis be my best bet? Brian W., Perry, FL

  1. Answer:

Just so that we’re clear from the start, let me point out that Cialis is available in two different formulations, both of which have the identical active ingredient but vary in their intended use.

If you’re looking for a long-lasting ED drug for use on-demand, Cialis in 10- and 20-milligram doses is the medication for you. Its duration of effect lasts for up to 36 hours, which long ago earned it the nickname of “the weekend pill.”

Take a 10- or 20-milligram tablet at 9 p.m. Friday night and you could be good to go until about 9 a.m. on Sunday. Tadalafil, the active ingredient in both forms of Cialis, has the longest half-life of any ED medication — 17.5 hours.

At the lower doses of 2.5- and 5 milligrams, Cialis is prescribed as a daily therapy, which can ensure you’re ready for sex whenever the moment is right.

To enjoy the benefits of daily Cialis, you’ll need to take it for three or four days to build up sufficient levels of the drug in your system to provide ED relief whenever the need arises. And to continue those benefits, daily Cialis should be taken at roughly the same time every day.

    Thanks
